BE Prepared is British Eventing’s new learning and development initiative, created to support riders, coaches and owners across every stage of their eventing journey. Built around expert guidance, practical training, and accessible digital learning, it provides a supported pathway into the sport and helps riders prepare with confidence.

Open to both members and non-members, BE Prepared is delivered through British Eventing's Training Foundation, the BETF, our new foundation dedicated to supporting education, development and best practice across the sport. 

Whether you’re entering your first BE80, returning to eventing after a break, or looking to develop your knowledge as you move up the levels, BE Prepared offers structured, welfare-led support for both horse and rider. The programme brings together coaching expertise, equine professionals, and evidence-based guidance to promote safe, enjoyable and informed participation.

Aligned with British Eventing’s wider vision for welfare, development and performance, BE Prepared aims to create a stronger, more connected eventing community where learning and support is accessible to all.

THE BE PREPARED MISSION

WELFARE

We promote ethical, horse-first decision-making by sharing practical, evidence-led guidance on training, management and care, ensuring every rider can support their horse’s wellbeing at home and at competition.

DEVELOPMENT

We provide clear, accessible learning opportunities that empower riders to build their skills, grow their understanding of the sport, and feel confident in their everyday training and preparation.

PERFORMANCE

We support riders in developing strong foundations across fitness, mindset and eventing technique, helping them ride safely, progress effectively and perform at their best in all three phases.

WHY BE PREPARED?

BE Prepared was developed in response to rider feedback with more than 70% of members calling for better online training resources. By combining digital learning with hands-on coaching, the programme helps riders make confident, informed decisions that benefit both horse and rider. It strengthens welfare standards, encourages participation, and supports the long-term sustainability of the sport through knowledge-sharing, community-building and evidence-based practice.

The British Eventing Training Foundation (BETF)

  • The British Eventing Training Foundation (BETF) is British Eventing’s charitable foundation, dedicated to supporting education, training and development across the sport.

    The BETF exists to promote participation, welfare and safety, and to inspire continuous improvement at every level of eventing. By raising funds and investing in innovative training and education programmes, the foundation helps create a stronger, safer and more sustainable eventing community - for riders, horses, officials, coaches and volunteers alike.
  • Through its work, the BETF supports initiatives that:
    • Provide inclusive, enjoyable training opportunities
    • Encourage participation and accessibility across the sport
    • Educate and inform to support excellent horse welfare
    • Invest in training and research that promotes safety for horses and people
    • Support long-term development, not just progression up the levels
  • The BETF delivers and supports training and education nationwide for riders, coaches, officials and the thousands of volunteers who help make eventing possible. Programmes supported by the foundation include BE Member Training, coach development, and volunteer and official education, helping to secure the future of the sport for generations to come.
